Southampton Boat Show 2011

The UK’s leading outdoor boat show, the PSP Southampton Boat Show returns to Mayflower Park from 16-25th September. Bringing a host of new attractions along with the show favourites it’s a show not to be missed.

In its 43rd year, the Show will make for a memorable day out for the whole family. The 10-day event is hosted at one of Europe’s largest purpose built marinas, featuring over 2km of pontoons.  Hundreds of exhibitors will showcase the marine industry’s finest products, services and equipment, whilst almost 1000 boats ranging from kayaks and dinghies to yachts and motorboats will be on show to climb aboard, explore and trial.

Increased performance with new Duoprop propellers

Volvo Penta launches new aluminum Duoprop propellers for the DPS and OceanX drives. The new IH- and I-series propellers have a new and patented design featuring larger blades with increased blade area ratio – providing better “grip” delivering faster acceleration and reduced cavitation risk. The new design is possible thanks to a high-strength

aluminum alloy that is squeeze casted, giving a dense structure with high finish.

The IH-series has helical splines, introduced on the DPS and OceanX drives model year 2012. The
I-series has straight splines and fits DPS, OceanX and XDP drives up to model year 2011. Maximum engine power is 220 hp for diesel and 225 for gasoline engines. Propellers are available in sizes for speeds up to 38 knots.

New Volvo Penta VCS Coolant

New Volvo Penta VCS (Volvo Coolant Specification) Coolant!

Volvo Penta have introduced a new type of coolant. Volvo Penta Coolant VCS (Yellow Top) is designed to work optimally with the latest Volvo Penta engine programs.

Volvo Penta Coolant VCS contains new inhibitors that are adapted to the materials used in modern engines. VCS (yellow) offers better protection against corrosion and the build-up of deposits; it counteracts cavitation and galvanic corrosion.

The continued improvement of Volvo Penta engines with higher performance, more compact sizes and lighter materials raises the requirements for cooling and corrosion protection and therefore also the coolant

Volvo Penta Coolant VCS is yellow and should NOT be mixed with the Volvo Penta green coolant.

Volvo Penta VCS Coolant is only available in 5 ltr containers. Volvo Penta Green Coolant remains available in 1 and 5 ltr containers.

Rydlyme Marine Descaler

An Introduction to Rydlyme

The internal combustion engine during mechanical operation requires an external medium to keep the engine and its vital parts at a predetermined temperature. The cooling medium is generally liquid and can be either raw water cooled (seawater or lake water) or heat exchanger cooled. Heat exchanger cooled units require separate coolant for the engine circuit and inter faced with raw water cooling for the heat exchanger.

Cooling liquid, be it freshwater or seawater will react adversely above 60 degrees C. The hotter the temperature the more salts and metals will be extricated from the cooling liquid, this is why the salty crystalline deposits build up in the cooling system and decreases its cooling efficiency by coating the heating exchanger interface surfaces with this calcification.

The eventual choking of the coolant passageways will lead to reduction in coolant flow and an overheating engine, to which the engine will ultimately fail due to overheat friction.

The removal of this calcification is where we introduce Rydlyme.

This proprietary de-scalar is to the same effect as the de-scaler one would use for a domestic kettle. Following the straight forward instructions, the use of this ‘cleaning’ formulation will remove all calcified deposits in every location in the engine that has been introduced to Rydlyme. Once the cleaning operation is completed and the engine returned to its normal operation the difference will be a clean and efficient cooling system. 

With engine rebuilds requiring parts, labour and sometimes machining requirements, this rydelyme cleaning is a very cost effective solution to engine maintenance.
